Senior photo sessions FAQ:
We should have time for up to three wardrobe changes, not counting accessories.
Do- Be Yourself!!! Don’t wear something you never wear or wear only for special occasions unless that is a look you really want to capture (Like a Prom dress). We once did a family photo session in formal attire - you know the stuff you wear maybe ONCE a year! The photo is beautiful - but it looks like someone else’s family, NOT us! If you like trendy outfits, you can be trendy, but your outfit should be something you feel good in. Wear something you feel beautiful (handsome) in, is comfortable and feels like YOU. Please make sure you can sit and move comfortably in it if it’s a dress or skirt.
Do - Think about color. Choose colors that look good on you and complement your skin tone or eyes. If you are getting your photos done in a park or the woods, pick colors that will look good with a green background. Google a color wheel if you need help on which colors look good with others. If you’ve chosen an urban location, think about what that means for your “look”, perhaps jeans tucked into boots, or a leather jacket, if it’s weather appropriate?
Do - Pay attention to detail; Groomed nails, proper undergarments. Some of your photos will be full length and some will be close up, so the details matter. If Mother Nature gifts you with a big zit the night before the shoot, don’t worry, I can easily make that go away. However, removing bra-straps or fixing issues with clothes (i.e.Calvin is showing) is time consuming and something I do not normally do. Remember to think about cleavage and how the clothes move when you walk or sit down.
Do – Get Ready:
Ladies: Get your hair and nails done – IF you want to!! But it’s not necessary. If you wear makeup, wear it, but don’t over do it. If you don’t normally wear make up, a little will help bring out your features in the photos. Please see my Pinterest Board for some more ideas. I can arrange for a hair and makeup session for an additional fee.
Guys: Shave! Press your shirt! Look Neat! Your Mom will be saving these photos and showing them to everyone!
Do – Accessorize: Please feel free to bring your letterman jacket, your tennis racquet, musical instrument, favorite books, or other props that tell YOUR story. We can use your vehicle as a prop too if that is something meaningful for you. Hats, scarfs and sun glasses are fun too.
Do – Bring a Friend. If you want to bring a friend, go ahead. They can join in the fun and help carry your stuff too!
Families and Children FAQ:
What should we wear? Plan ahead for what you want everyone to wear. You definitely don’t need to be in matching outfits, but the colors should go together. Logos or writing on T-shirts is distracting. Wear clothes that are comfortable and that feel like “you”. Our family once did a portrait session in our “formal clothes”. While the photos are beautiful, they don’t really look like “us”. If dressing up is YOUR families’ style, then by all means that is what you should plan for. However, if you are a jeans and t-shirt family, then base your style off of that. Please be prepared to sit, run and play in what you are wearing! If you need some ideas, please see my Pinterest board.
What is the timing for a family photo session? Most sessions will last an hour to an hour and a half maximum. If small ones are involved, an hour is usually as much time as they will want to participate. If you have a big family, then it will take a bit more time to get all of the shots needed to give you a diverse gallery of pictures to choose from. The sessions will almost always be scheduled an hour to two hours before sunset or if your kids (and you) are early risers, between 8:00-10:00 am. If you prefer to have the session done inside your home, it will depend on where the best light enters your home, but a bit later in the morning or earlier in the afternoon usually works too.
What happens if the weather is bad or my child is sick? Then we will reschedule for another day with in a two-three week period.
Can we take a particular shot that I’ve seen in a magazine? I am happy to try and create a special shot. Just let me know ahead of time so I can plan ahead. My style is considered “Life Style” photography. This means that while I will take the traditional shots of you and your family posed and looking at the camera, most of the other photos will be more organic shots of you interacting with your family; laughing and playing together. I will “pose” these shots in the beginning and then we will go from there!
